The Gulf of Orosei

Cala Gonone is an Italian seaside town and a civil parish of the municipality of Dorgali, Province of Nuoro, in the region of Sardinia. In 2007 its population was of 1,279 inhabitants. There is a horseshoe shaped cove where you will find the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean sea. One of those beaches is Cala Luna it is probably the most famous and celebrated beach of the Gulf of Orosei (and perhaps in the whole of Sardinia) and – according to many visitors – one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. The beach is 700 metres long and the sea has got wonderful azure-blue reflections that stand out against the green of the vegetation ( a wood of oleander trees lines the beach) and of the freshwater lake behind it. We traveled there in September of 2015. It is my passion to find the most beautiful beaches in the world that led me here. We rented a small power boat and ventured to the Golf of Orosei and there beyond my wildest expectations were the most beautiful beaches I have ever see, with piercing blue waters. Finally I have found a paradise where I am sure to return every year!
In the map below you’ll notice there is a horseshoe of beaches that can only reached by foot or by boat. You can’t drive, notice the rugged hills behind the beaches. You can rent a boat in Cala Gonone at the beginning of the Marina Di Orosei and drive yourself. Make sure to pack a lunch and a float, because there are parameters that will keep you from driving your boat too close to the beach. You then have to swim to shore and it is not always close. At Cala Mariolu one of favorite beaches in Cala Gonone, you can bring the boat to shore (if it is small enough) and jump directly onto the beach. The driver then has to take the boat back out and anchor it behind area that you are permitted to keep the boat. Then the driver has to swim to shore.
Cala Galoritze is the beach I had longed to see for almost 10 years. Every time I tried to arrive at that beach in Sardinia it was either bad weather or some other issue arose. When we finally arrived, I was without words at the beautiful water, white sand and rugged backdrop. Mostly the water was incredible blue and the mountains of the coastline, accentuated the beauty. People anchored their boats and swam ashore or just sat and watched the beauty from their boats. Words can’t describe these beaches and we recommend that as a “must see” if you are a beach lover!
