Boating on Lake Como

Boating on Lake Como is one of the best adventures in Italy, during the day and at night, so romantic! It gives you a great view of the majestic villas nestled in the hills, and afar the snow capped Alps. There are different boats that can be rented with and without a skipper. Larger boats are now only permitted to be rented with a captain over 40 hp, so make sure to get your nautical license before you come.
Every time I visit Lake Como, we rent a private boats or you can ride the local ferries that run almost every 1/2 hour. The ferry’s can be taken with and without your vehicle, from Bellagio you would take the Cadenabbia ferry with your car or to Varenna, Menaggio, or just about any of the towns along the Lake. The ferry’s can be taken from Lake Como as well.
Some of the luxury Villas offer you the option to keep the boat at their private boat slip for the duration of your holiday. Or you can hire a water taxi and be picked up at the Villa.
People also ask if you can swim in the Lake and my answer is yes, you can swim and the locals certainly do as well. The water is very cold, but refreshing on a hot summer day. There is one particular beach that I love in Faggeto Lario photo below, with a small bar is alongside the lake and you can rent a lounge chair for the day.
