Faggeto Lario
A very special place that I recently visit is Faggeto Lario, a small quaint town alone the lake. Several years ago as I was visiting Laglio (famously known for George Clooney’s hometown on Como), I saw the town in the distance. I asked locals, as I pointed across the lake, what is the name of that town? Soon I was drawn to explore across to the other side. Like a young curious child opening up a fairytale novel, I made my way there. As I ascended down I found a nice little restaurant Vapore with dining, and relatively nice views of the lake across the parking lot. And I walked down to the Lake. This town offers endless rhythms of the soothing sound of the water flowing from the Alps down to the Lake. It was a short visit and I continued on to other areas.
As the years past, I visited the restaurant, as it the menu was consistently good. This spring, I found myself in an apartment directly on the Lake with the most beautiful views from this town. I guess the security is to be slightly above the town to experience the best possible views. The lake seems to open into a Y form this juncture. My apartment offered the perfect view form the bedroom window and terraces. And in the silence of the night, you could hear the water streaming down to the lake. As I strolled the area, I found winding cobblestone courtyards and stairs, ohh this place is so romantic (see my video)! With each day the magic continue and surprises unraveled themselves to intrigue me the more.
One cool crisp spring morning, I got into my Fiat Convertible (always a favorite to rent), and off I went to explore the views and towns from above. I took the first road up and continued, with each turn upward the views became more spectacular. Stopping along the way to take in the scenery, as I rose higher, the air was cooler and more bright. I found myself entering a town overflowing with the scent of spring flowers in the air and around the corner a church, dark and very cool, I entered and lit a candle for my grandmother and father, only being guided by the light of the candles shadowing the blessed mother statue just above. As I knelt, I could smell the lingering smell of incenses, apparently there was a mass just a short time before I arrived. The only inhabitants anywhere near me was a cute little dog who followed me everywhere I went, at every corner views of the mountains and below the glistening lake, I have found “destinazione paradiso…” with moist eyes and a warm heart, I continued in my convertible…
As each day past, I held my breath as I called the concierge asking, “is there a way for me to stay one more night?” and the answer, “you can stay as long as you wish Christine..” perhaps, I’ll stay forever. As the week continued, this will be remembered as one of the most heart filled memorable stays I have had on the Lake.
